Focus Areas

In addition to member education, information transfer, networking, and special events, the Consortion has developed two key focal areas.

Caregiving

The Caregiver Retention Project is part of a wider community building initiate. Its purpose is to develop and retain caregivers for older people through educational and networking events that provide both information and the kind of professional socialization and development most other professionals have access to.

Funding for this project ends in 2008. We are exploring ways to continue serving this vitally important and underserved group.

Housing and services

Housing, one of the most basic human needs, is healthcare. Without a good and safe place to live and a supportive community, people’s physical and emotional wellbeing deteriorates. In the newer movements called “aging in place” and “aging in community,” we’ve come to understand the economic and social value of bringing services to seniors in their homes or nearby communities.

The Milwaukee Aging Consortium serves a unique function in bringing diverse people to the table to share ideas and form partnerships. In the area of housing, we’re bringing the housing people, the service people, and the seniors together to learn from each other. The goal is to find ways to build and serve more efficiently because people understand each other’s work better.
